Sole Searching: Eric Emanuel x adidas Crazy BYW

The short lifespan of the newly released adidas Crazy BYW has been best seen through the lens of Los Angeles concept brand Bristol Studio. Their rendition of the Boost You Wear silhouette this February masterfully showcased the shoe’s versatility, both playing on its ability as a lifestyle wear and the shoe’s concrete foundation as a performance enhancer.

It was, by all estimations, the first of many collaborations adidas has planned for the modern Feet You Wear overhaul. What follows today is a budding execution from designer Eric Emanuel, approaching the shoe from a similar material focus as Bristol yet igniting the adoring canvas through his own sentimentality.

Emanuel’s creation is vastly more color driven. He employs a heavy coat of Oxblood throughout the body while infusing pops of yellow and pink. A juxtaposition of premium leather and suede harkens back to vintage basketball sneakers. Some of which were heavy but focused on materials that aided in durability and craftsmanship. No excess weight here, though, as the Crazy BYW is a lightweight style enhanced by the featherweight Boost cushioning for stabilization and energy return.

Eric Emanuel is hosting a pop-up shop in New York City that opens today, for which this shoe is said to be available tomorrow, June 15. The shop is located at 161 Grand St.

UPDATE 11/26: The Eric Emanuel x adidas Crazy BYW is slated to release online at adidas for $200 on December 7th according to Hypebeast.
