Sole Searching: adidas ZX 4000 4D

The newly revealed adidas ZX 4000 4D has both the form and finesse to be that hit sneaker the German powerhouse so badly needs. Although not produced from recycled materials (yet), the sleek low-cut model is upheld by an inventive 4D designed sole unit. Above is a paneled upper with design language easily likened to Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 label.

There’s an undeniably futurist aesthetic that leaps from this sample of the ZX 4000 4D. The lines and curves are progressive and forward coupled with the angular framing that’s helped both adidas and its aforementioned subsidiary thrive in recent years. But more than anything technical, the shoe’s visual appeal is striking — they just look great.
